Sezgin Bakirdere is currently a full professor in the Chemistry Department at Yildiz Technical University. In 2001, he graduated with B.S. in Chemistry Department from Fırat University. He received his MSc in Analytical Chemistry from the same university in 2003, and then earned his PhD degree from the Chemistry Department at Middle East Technical University in 2009. His research background over the past 20 years has been mostly focused on metal speciation, microextraction strategies, hydride generation systems, food analysis, waste water treatment and chromatography. In regard to his expert areas, he has published about 430 papers in international respected journals. He has 304 presentations in national/international conferences in addition to 2 books in CRC Press/Taylor&Francis Group and Elsevier. His h-index is 35 (Scopus) with about 5835 citations.

He is the Full Member of Turkish Academy of Science and alumni member of Global Young Academy. He was selected as Executive Board member and Secretary General of Turkish Chemical Society. He is also Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC).
