Dr. Maria Antonopoulou is Associate Professor of Pollution Control and Environmental Protection Technologies at the Department of Sustainable Agriculture, University of Patras. Her research focuses on aquatic pollution caused by organic micropollutants and emerging contaminants, the assessment of their impacts on microorganisms and human cells, the identification of transformation products using state-of-the-art mass spectrometric techniques, and the application of advanced oxidation processes for their efficient removal from water and wastewater. She has published more than 110 papers in international scientific journals and books (over 4,000 citations and h-index: 35 in Scopus) and presented numerous contributions at national and international conferences. She has participated in various national and international research projects as a researcher and/or principal investigator. She is included in Stanford University’s Top 2% Scientists list and, in 2019, received the L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Award.
