Household food waste remains a major environmental and socio-economic issue in Klaten Regency due to the high proportion of unsegregated organic waste and limited local treatment capacity. This study assesses the implementation of Black Soldier Fly (BSF) bioconversion technology to treat household food waste through a sustainable approach which uses the Triple Bottom Line (TBL) framework for evaluation against Vermicomposting and Anaerobic Digestion systems The results show that BSF had the lowest environmental impacts, with global warming potential of 2.84 × 10-2 kg CO₂ eq, ozone depletion of 2.76 × 10-10 kg CFC-11 eq, acidification of 6.46 × 10-3 kg SO₂ eq, and eutrophication of 8.52 × 10-4 kg PO43- eq. The economic evaluation reveals that the project will reach its breakeven point after 2.75 years while generating Rp10,995,984,094.85 in present value and delivering a 61% return on investment. Socially, BSF achieved the highest AHP preference score (49.1%), outperforming Vermicomposting (40.2%) and Anaerobic Digestion (10.7%), mainly due to lower land requirements, lower operating costs, simpler operation, and higher community acceptance. This study demonstrates that integrating TBL provides a comprehensive basis for selecting sustainable household food waste treatment technologies, with BSF emerging as the preferred option.
